Our Design Approach

Shape, proportion
and the movement between.

Our design approach is a way of looking at activewear as part of an outfit. A silhouette, seam placement or layer becomes more meaningful in relation to the body, the activity and the pieces around it.

A closer look

From an idea to a considered combination.

01

Begin with the use

Identify the activity and the part a garment will play. A warm-up layer and a studio top may contribute differently to a routine.

02

Resolve the proportion

Compare the actual lengths, rise and fit information. Consider the relationship between a shorter top, a longer layer and the chosen bottom.

03

Read the material information

Composition and construction belong in the same picture. Do not infer stretch, support or protective features from the look of a fabric.

04

Edit the combination

Try a simpler palette or one fewer layer before adding another detail. Let the intended silhouette remain clear.

The Flexqena perspective

A considered point of view.

01

The silhouette

Notice where a garment sits and how its volume relates to the rest of the outfit.

02

The construction

Look at the details actually stated for the piece, including seams, openings and adjustments.

03

The context

Consider the activity and the layers that will be worn together.

Worth a moment

The relationship makes the look.

A fitted base, a relaxed layer and a considered hem length can create a clear visual rhythm. Use those relationships alongside the actual garment specifications.

  • Start with the intended use.
  • Compare lengths and fit.
  • Keep the overall silhouette clear.

A little clarity

Good to know.

Does this describe an in-house manufacturing process?

It describes Flexqena’s perspective on design and styling rather than claiming a particular manufacturing or authorship process.

Can I use this approach with existing pieces?

Yes. Begin with the garments you own and consider which proportions or layers you want to change.
